Rochester, MN  (KROC-AM News) -A single building permit accounted for almost 75-percent of the value of all of the building permits approved by the City of Rochester in April.

The monthly total was huge at over $94-million dollars, but $70.4 million of that amount was from a permit issued to the Knutson Construction Company for the Mayo Civic Center expansion and renovation project. Another sizeable chunk of the valuation total, almost $7.2-million dollars, was from a permit for a 49 unit apartment building west of the Cinemagic Theaters.

Through the first four months of the year, the city has approved building permits worth over $183-million dollars. Last year, the total through April was about $98-million.

Rochester home builders saw their business slow down a bit last month. The City Building Safety Department issued 22 permits for new single-family homes worth $3.8 million dollars. That’s 8 below the total from March, but through the first four four months of the year, the total is 14 ahead of last year.
