UNDATED (AP) — The New England Patriots have managed to withstand the absence of quarterback Tom Brady so far this season, and they were able to win with Jacoby Brissett under center.

The Patriots earned a 31-24 win over Miami while playing the second half without QB Jimmy Garoppolo (gah-RAH'-puh-loh), who suffered a right shoulder injury late in the second quarter. Garoppolo completed 18 of 27 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns before leaving the game for good about five minutes before halftime. Brissett followed and drove the Pats to a touchdown on his first NFL possession. The undrafted Brissett was 6 of 9 for 92 yards.

LeGarrette Blount rushed 29 times for 123 yards and a touchdown for the 2-0 Patriots, who have won eight straight at home against Miami.

In other action on Week 2 of the NFL schedule:

— Denver's defense scored twice in the fourth quarter to secure a 34-20 triumph over Indianapolis. Aqib Talib (ah-KEEB' tah-LEEB') returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown, and Shane Ray brought back a fumble 15 yards for the game-clinching TD. Trevor Siemian was 22 of 33 for 266 yards for the Broncos, while C.J. Anderson carried 20 times for 74 yards and a TD for the 2-0 Broncos. Andrew Luck was sacked five times as he completed just 21 of his 40 attempts for 197 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the 0-2 Colts.

— Minnesota has opened its new stadium with a 17-14 win over Green Bay. Sam Bradford was sharp in his Vikings debut, completing 22 of his 31 passes for 286 yards, two TDs and no turnovers. Aaron Rodgers was sacked five times and had two turnovers, including an interception in Minnesota territory at the two-minute warning. The Vikings finished without Adrian Peterson because of a right knee injury.

— The Rams were winners in their first regular-season home game at the Los Angeles Coliseum since 1979. An announced crowd of more than 91,000 was on hand as Greg Zuerlein (ZWUR'-lyn) drilled field goals of 47, 39 and 28 yards to help the Rams earn a 9-3 victory over Seattle. The Seahawks had a chance to improve to 2-0 until Mark Barron fumbled at the Los Angeles 29 with 57 seconds left. Both teams are 1-1.

— Arizona clobbered Tampa Bay 40-7 as Carson Palmer passed for 308 yards, three TDs and no interceptions. Jaron Brown's 51-yard scoring reception put the Cardinals ahead 24-0 in the first quarter. Larry Fitzgerald also had a TD grab, one of his six receptions for 81 yards. Buccaneers QB Jameis (JAY'-mihs) Winston had a miserable afternoon as he threw four interceptions and lost a fumble.

— Atlanta spoiled Oakland's home opener as Matt Ryan was 26 of 34 for 396 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the Falcons' 35-28 win over the Raiders. Davonta (dah-VAHN'-tay) Freeman ran for 93 yards and Tevin Coleman put the game out of reach by scoring on a 13-yard run to put the Falcons ahead 35-21 with 4:41 remaining. Raiders QB David Carr hit Michael Crabtree, Clive Walford and Andre Holmes for touchdowns and completed 34 of his 45 passes for 299 yards and no interceptions.

— San Diego carried another big lead into the fourth quarter, but this time they held it as Philip Rivers finished with four TD passes to lead the Chargers past Jacksonville, 38-14. Ty Benjamin had six receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns, including a 45-yard scoring grab that put the Chargers ahead 35-0 in the third quarter. Melvin Gordon led the Chargers' ground game with 102 yards and two TDs on 24 carries. Blake Bortles threw for 329 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for the 0-2 Jaguars.

— Alfred Morris victimized his former team by scoring on a four-yard run with 4:45 remaining before the Cowboys stopped Washington on downs in a 27-23 triumph. Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott had a six-yard TD run and was 22 of 30 for 292 yards and no interceptions in his first NFL victory. Fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott had 83 yards on 21 carries for the 1-1 Cowboys, including a one-yard scoring run. Kirk Cousins went 28 for 46 for 364 yards and a touchdown for the 0-2 Redskins, who had to settle for field goals on a pair of drives deep in the red zone during the third quarter.

— Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH'-lihs-bur-gur) threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns as the Steelers beat the Bengals 24-16. DeAngelo Williams ran for 94 yards on a career-high 32 carries, including a four-yard touchdown grab that helped the Steelers improve to 2-0 and drop the Bengals to 1-1. Bengals QB Andy Dalton passed for 366 yards and a touchdown but needed 31 completions to reach that total. Most of his completions were short passes to running backs as the Steelers clamped down on wide receiver A.J. Green, who had just two receptions for 38 yards.

— The Browns dropped their home opener and fell to 0-2 by blowing a 20-0 lead in a 25-20 setback against Baltimore. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (FLAK'-oh) threw two touchdown passes to wide receiver Mike Wallace and Justin Tucker added three field goals, the last with 2:56 left. Baltimore clinched the victory and its second win of the season when linebacker C.J. Mosley intercepted Browns quarterback Josh McCown at the goal line with 13 seconds left.

— Cam Newton bounced back from the beating he took against Denver in the NFL season opener, throwing for 353 yards and four TDs in Carolina's 46-27 rout of San Francisco. Newton threw two TD passes to Kelvin Benjamin and one each to Greg Olsen and Devin Funchess to pass Jake Delhomme (del-OHM') for the most scoring passes in franchise history with 122. Olsen gave the 1-1 Panthers the lead for good in the second quarter when he hauled in a career-long 78-yard touchdown pass. Fozzy Whittaker had 100 yards on 16 carries to help the Panthers overcome their four turnovers.

— The Giants are 2-0 for the first time in seven years after beating the Saints 16-13 on Josh Brown's 23-yard field goal as time expired. Eli Manning hooked up for Victor Cruz on a 34-yard pass that set up Brown's third field goal. Manning completed 32 of 41 passes for 368 yards, with Cruz, rookie Sterling Shepard and Odell Beckham Jr. amassing at least 86 receiving yards. The Giants' lone TD came when defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins blocked a field goal and Janoris (jah-NOHR'-ihs) Jenkins returned it 65 yards with 2 1/2 minutes left in the first half.

— Tennessee pulled out a 16-15 win at Detroit on Marcus Mariota's nine-yard touchdown pass to Andre Johnson with 1:13 to play. Mariota threw two scoring passes in the fourth quarter as the Titans overcame a 15-3 deficit and ended a five-game losing streak. Mariota threw for 238 yards and DeMarco Murray had a 67-yard run, his longest since a rookie with Dallas in 2011. The Lions had an opportunity to drive for a second straight game-winning field goal, but Matthew Stafford threw an interception to Perrish Cox at midfield in the final minute.

— The Texans are 2-0 after setting a franchise record with three fumble recoveries in the first half of a 19-12 victory over the Chiefs. Brock Osweiler (AHS'-wy-lur) threw for a pair of interceptions but finished with 268 passing yards, with DeAndre Hopkins accounting for 113 on seven receptions. It became a field goal battle after Osweiler hit Hopkins for a 27-yard scoring pass midway through the first quarter. Alex Smith passed for 186 yards but failed to get the 1-1 Chiefs into the end zone.

Dodgers, Giants lose

UNDATED (AP) — The Dodgers still lead the National League West by five games over San Francisco after Arizona earned a split of its four-game series with Los Angeles.

Brandon Drury delivered a walk-off single with two out in the bottom of the 12th to give the Diamondbacks a 10-9 triumph over the Dodgers. L.A. took a 9-7 lead on Howie Kendrick's two-run double in the eighth, but Arizona forced extra innings on Chris Owings' two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth.

Adrian Gonzalez laced a three-run double for the Dodgers, who begin a three-game set against visiting San Francisco on Monday.

The Giants lost their share of the first wild-card berth with a 3-0 loss to St. Louis. Alex Reyes blanked the Giants on four hits over seven innings to help the Cardinals get within one game of San Francisco for the second wild-card slot.

Aledmys (ah-LEHD'-mees) Diaz belted a two-run homer for the Redbirds, who earned a split of the four-game set after dropping the first two.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— Michael Conforto lined a two-run single and T.J. Rivera hit a solo homer that was the difference in the Mets' 3-2 victory against Minnesota. The Mets struck out 15 batters and completed a three-game sweep that puts them one game ahead of San Francisco for the first NL wild-card berth.

— Adonis Garcia had three hits and three RBIs as Atlanta knocked off Washington 6-2, a game shortened to seven innings because of rain. The Nationals' magic number to win the NL East remains six following their second straight loss.

— Wily Peralta (WIH'-lee peh-RAHL'-tah) worked six innings and Chris Carter homered as Milwaukee beat Kyle Hendricks and the Cubs, 3-1 in Chicago. The Brewers took three of four from the NL Central champions and raised Hendricks' major league-leading ERA to 2.06.

— Boston completed a four-game sweep and damaged the Yankees' playoff hopes by erasing a 4-0 deficit in a 5-4 win over New York. Hanley Ramirez sparked the rally with a three-run homer in the fifth before his seventh-inning blast put the Red Sox ahead. The Bosox top the AL East by three games over Baltimore and four over Toronto, while the Yankees are four games behind the Blue Jays for the final AL wild-card berth.

— Mark Trumbo's major league-leading 43rd homer of the season snapped a 1-1 deadlock in the eighth inning of Baltimore's 2-1 triumph over Tampa Bay. Manny Machado tied it with his 36th home run before Trumbo's blast allowed the Orioles to take sole possession of the first AL wild-card berth, one game ahead of Toronto and three in front of Detroit and Seattle.

— Alex Meyer and four relievers combing to four-hit Toronto and lead the Angels' 4-0 shutout of the Blue Jays. Albert Pujols (POO'-hohls) and Rafael Ortega each had two hits and an RBI for Los Angeles.

— Cleveland's 9-5 loss to Detroit cuts the Indians' lead in the AL Central to seven games over the Tigers. J.D. Martinez smacked a three-run homer, Justin Upton hit a two-run shot and Erick Aybar (EYE'-bahr) drove in two as the Tigers kept the Indians' magic number at seven.

— Oakland beat Texas 5-2 as Khris Davis homered twice and had three RBIs. Ross Detwiler pitched into the sixth inning to help the A's take the rubber match and leave the Rangers with a magic number of five for winning the AL West.

— Seth Smith homered twice and drove in four to highlight Seattle's 12-hit attack in a 7-3 triumph against Houston. Ariel Miranda was sharp in limiting the Astros two three hits over seven innings, including solo shots by George Springer and Carlos Correa.

— Kendrys (KEHN'-drees) Morales was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and four RBIs in Kansas City's 10-3 trouncing of the White Sox. Eric Hosmer drove in three runs for the Royals.

— Philadelphia carried a 4-2 lead into the eighth before Christian Yelich (YEH'-lihch) hit a two-run homer and J.T. Realmuto (ree-al-MOO'-toh) singled home the eventual winning run in the Marlins' 5-4 decision over the Phillies. Odubal (oh-DOO'-bul) Herrera and Freddy Galvis homered for the Phils.

— Cincinnati pushed the Pirates another step closer to wild-card elimination as Tucker Barnhardt lined a two-run double and had four RBIs in the Reds' 7-4 victory against Pittsburgh. Joey Votto (VAH'-toh) homered and Dan Straily picked up his 13th win by allowing three runs and five hits over six innings.

— Colorado beat San Diego 6-3 behind Mark Reynolds' two-run homer and two RBIs from Carlos Gonzalez. The Rockies got 3 2/3 shutout innings from their bullpen to help Chad Bettis get his 13th victory.

'Bama stays No. 1

UNDATED (AP) — Alabama remains the top team in the latest Associated Press football poll, but Ohio State is the new No. 2 following Florida State's 43-point loss to Louisville on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide claimed 50 of 61 first-place votes, the Buckeyes received four and the Cardinals garnered six just a day after crushing the Seminoles. Michigan is fourth, followed by Clemson, Houston, Stanford, Michigan State, Washington and Texas A&M.

The Seminoles dropped 11 spots to 13th.

Nebraska, San Diego State and Utah cracked the poll. North Dakota State didn't make the rankings, but received 74 points after upsetting Iowa, the most points ever for a Football Championship Subdivision team.

Truex wins playoff opener

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — Martin Truex Jr. took the lead after a late restart and pulled away to open NASCAR's Sprint Cup playoff with a victory at Chicagoland Speedway.

Chase Elliott appeared on his way to the win and a spot in the second round of the 10-race Chase until Michael McDowell's spin brought a caution with five laps left, giving Truex the opportunity to pull ahead following the caution.

Joey Logano (loh-GAH'-noh) was third, followed by Elliott and Ryan Blaney.

INDYCAR-SONOMA

Pagenaud takes season title

SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — Simon Pagenaud (PA'-zheh-noh) won at Sonoma Raceway to give Roger Penske an IndyCar championship on the 50th anniversary of one of the most storied organization in motorsports.

The Frenchman won his first career IndyCar title in his second season driving for Penske, doing it in dominating fashion to win the season finale.

Pagenaud won the pole to earn another point, led the most laps and won a race that was worth double points in the standings.

F1-SINGAPORE

Rosberg wins again

SINGAPORE (AP) — Nico Rosberg celebrated his 200th Formula One start by winning the Singapore Grand Prix and grabbing the lead from Lewis Hamilton in the driver standings. Rosberg held on to beat a fast-finishing Daniel Ricciardo (rih-KAHR'-doh), with Hamilton finishing third to fall eight points behind Rosberg.

LPGA-EVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Chun sets record in winning major

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — In Gee Chun won the Evian (AY'-vee-ahn) Championship in France with a 21-under total, breaking the record for the lowest score in a major. Chun closed with a 2-under 69 to finish four shots in front of fellow South Koreans Sung Hyun Park and So Yeon Ryu.

Chun broke the women's scoring record for a major by two shots and was one better than the men's mark shared by Henrik Stenson and Jason Day.

GOLF-CHAMPIONS TOUR

Broadhurst takes Pebble Beach event

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Paul Broadhurst sank a six-foot birdie putt the par-5 18th to win the Champions Tour event at Pebble Beach.

The 51-year-old Englishman finished with a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke victory over Bernhard Langer and playing partner Kevin Sutherland.

HOCKEY-WORLD CUP

Team North America beats Finland

TORONTO (AP) — In the World Cup of Hockey, the kids are all right.

The 23-and-under Team North America has opened its tournament schedule with a 4-1 triumph over Finland. Jack Eichel (EYE'-kul) opened the scoring with a power-play goal early in the first period. Johnny Gaudreau and Jonathan Drouin (DROO'-an) beat Pekka Rinne (PEH'-kuh REE'-nay) two minutes apart in the second before Nathan MacKinnon tallied later in the period.

Matt Murray turned back 24 shots and blanked Finland until Valtteri Filppula (val-TEHR'-ee FIHL'-poo-luh) beat him with 4:07 left.

Sweden won its tourney opener as Gabriel Landeskog and Victor Hedman scored second-period goals in a 2-1 win over Russia.
