UNDATED (AP) — Florida State can expect to fall out of the top-5 in Sunday's Associated Press football poll following one of the Seminoles' worst losses in school history.

Lamar Jackson ran for four touchdowns and threw for another as 10th-ranked Louisville crushed FSU, 63-20. Jackson ran for 146 yards and threw for another 216 yards while the Cardinals' defense recorded five sacks.

Jeremy Smith had a pair of TD runs for the Cardinals, who held Florida State to 284 total yards and forced two turnovers.

Meanwhile, North Dakota State may want to consider moving up from the FCS following its sixth consecutive victory over an FBS opponent. The Bison went into Ames, Iowa, and knocked off the 13th-ranked Hawkeyes, 23-21 on Cam Pedersen's 37-yard field goal as time expired. North Dakota State ran for 239 yards, held Iowa to 231 total yards and hit the winning kick after failing to punch in a two-point conversion attempt with 3:41 remaining.

Top-ranked Alabama and fourth-ranked Michigan had to rally in their victories.

Alabama scored two defensive touchdowns and another on special teams to overcome a three-touchdown deficit and beat No. 19 Mississippi 48-43. Jonathan Allen had a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown, Da'Ron Payne returned a fumble for a TD and Eddie Jackson brought back a punt 85 yards for a score to help the Crimson Tide win their SEC opener. Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for 158 yards and ran for 146 more.

Michigan fell behind 21-7 before recovering in a 45-28 triumph against Colorado. De'Veon Smith put the Wolverines ahead for good with a 42-yard run early in the third quarter. Smith had 87 yards on 11 carries, while Wilton Speight was 16 of 30 for 229 yards and a score for Michigan.

Also in top-25 action:

— J.T. Barrett was 14 of 20 for 152 yards and four TDs in third-ranked Ohio State's 45-24 win at No. 14 Oklahoma. Barrett also had 74 rushing yards and Mike Weber gained 123 yards on 18 carries for the Buckeyes. Sooners QB Baker Mayfield passed for 226 yards, two TDs and two interceptions.

— DeShaun Watson threw for three early touchdowns while No. 5 Clemson rolled out to a 45-0 halftime lead in a 59-0 laugher against South Carolina State. The Tigers scored twice in a five-second span of the first quarter as Wayne Gallman ran 3 yards for a touchdown before Ahmaad Harris grabbed the ensuing kickoff in the end zone and flipped it to the official without first taking a knee, allowing Clemson's Denzel Johnson to pounce on the ball for a TD. Things became so lopsided that both coaches agreed to play 12-minute quarters in the second half.

— Christian McCaffrey had 260 all-purpose yards and scored a pair of touchdowns as seventh-ranked Stanford topped Southern California, 27-10. The reigning AP player of the year and Heisman Trophy runner-up turned a short pass into a 56-yard touchdown and dove over a pile for a one-yard score to help the Cardinal beat the Trojans for the second time in nine tries.

— Jake Browning threw three touchdown passes in the first 16 minutes of eighth-ranked Washington's 41-3 dismantling of Portland State. Browning now has 12 touchdown passes in three games after throwing 16 TDs all of last season.

— Ninth-ranked Wisconsin was on its way to an embarrassing loss until backup quarterback Alex Hornibrook led three scoring drives in the second half of the Badgers' 23-17 triumph over Georgia State. Hornibrook took over late in the third quarter and was 8 of 12 for 122 yards, including a go-ahead, one-yard pass to Kyle Penniston with 7:25 left. Conner Manning threw for a career-high 269 yards and a score for Georgia State, which led 17-13 following Kyler Neal's nine-yard TD run with 11:36 remaining.

—Davis Webb threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game to break a tie with 3:41 to play and California got its first win over a ranked team in nearly four years, beating No. 11 Texas 50-43.

Webb, who grew up outside Dallas cheering for the Longhorns, made the most of his first meeting against his home-state team. He threw for 397 yards, ran for a score and connected on a 12-yard pass to Chad Hansen that broke a 43-all tie and gave coach Sonny Dykes his biggest win in four seasons at Cal (2-1).

— Michigan State won at Notre Dame as Tyler O'Connor threw for two touchdowns and Gerald Holmes ran for two more in the 12th-ranked Spartans' 36-28 decision over the Irish. The Spartans turned what had been a close game into a 29-point lead with three third-quarter touchdowns before Irish quarterback DeShone Kizer passed for two TDs and ran for a third.

— Joshua Dobbs threw a pair of 20-yard touchdown passes to Josh Malone and ran for a third score as No. 15 Tennessee held off Ohio 28-19. The Vols won despite losing three starters with injuries and playing the game without starting defensive back Malik Foreman, who was suspended for violating team rules.

— No. 16 Georgia pulled out a 28-27 victory over Missouri on Jacob Eason's 20-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah McKenzie on fourth down with 1:31 remaining. Eason completed 29 of 55 passes for 308 yards, three TDs and one interception in his first collegiate start.

— Daniel LaCamera kicked five field goals and Trevor Knight passed for 247 yards as No. 17 Texas A&M downed Auburn 29-16. Trayveon Williams gained 127 yards on just eight carries, including a game-clinching, 89-yard scoring burst with 6:52 left.

— Leonard Fournette returned from a bruised left ankle and ran for 147 yards and two touchdowns in No. 20 LSU's 23-20 victory over Mississippi State. Danny Etling completed 19 of 30 passes for 215 yards in his first start for the Tigers.

— Tommy Armstrong Jr. scored on a 34-yard quarterback draw with 2:29 left before Nebraska's defense held on Oregon's final series to wrap up a 35-32 win over the 22nd-rated Ducks. Armstrong ran for 95 yards and threw for another 200 and three touchdowns for the 3-0 Cornhuskers.

— Florida's defense set a school record by surrendering just 53 yards on 50 plays in a 32-0 shutout of North Texas. But the 23rd-rated Gators finished the game without quarterback Luke Del Rio, who injured his left knee in the third quarter.

— No. 24 Arkansas clobbered Texas State 42-3 as Austin Allen threw for 241 yards and a pair of touchdowns in less than three quarters. Rawleigh Williams topped the 100-yard rushing mark for the second straight game for the Razorbacks, finishing with 121 and two touchdowns.

— No. 25 Miami hammered Appalachian State 45-10 as Brad Kaaya threw for 368 yards and three scores. Mark Walton ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns for the Hurricanes, who have averaged 51 points in their first three games.

School celebrates former coach

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State has paid tribute to former coach Joe Paterno on the 50th anniversary of his first game. The celebration took place before the Nittany Lions' 34-27 win against Temple despite heavy criticism that the ceremonies are insensitive to victims in the university's sexual abuse scandal, which led to the conviction of Paterno's former coordinator, Jerry Sandusky.

Bosox beat Bombers again

UNDATED (AP) — The Boston Red Sox blew the 1978 American League East title by getting swept in a four-game series at Fenway Park against the New York Yankees, the eventual division champions. The Bosox are getting their revenge this weekend, taking the first three of a four-game set with the Yanks.

Mookie Betts led a go-ahead, two-run rally in the seventh inning as the Red Sox beat New York 6-5. Betts singled home the tying run and later scored on a wild pitch by Adam Warren.

Xander Bogaerts (ZAN'-dur BOH'-gahrts) also had a big afternoon by going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, three RBIs and three runs scored.

The Yankees fell seven games behind the AL East-leading Red Sox and remain four games out of a wild-card spot. New York wasted a two-run homer by rookie Gary Sanchez, his 15th in 39 games.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— Baltimore dropped three games behind the first-place Red Sox by failing to capitalize on a 2-0 lead in a 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay. The Rays went ahead in the sixth on Evan Longoria's solo homer and Richie Shaffer's RBI double. Longoria also tripled and scored three runs.

— The Angels' 6-1 win over Toronto keeps the Blue Jays and Orioles in a tie for the two AL wild-card berths, three games ahead of three others teams. Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz) hit a solo homer and Ricky Nolasco blanked the Jays on five hits over six innings.

— Cleveland pulled out a 1-0 victory against Detroit on a walk-off single by Jose Ramirez in the bottom of the 10th. The outcome puts the AL Central-leading Indians eight games ahead of the second-place Tigers, reduces Cleveland's magic number to seven and keeps Detroit three games from the AL wild-card co-leaders. But the Indians lost No. 2 starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco to a broken right hand when he was hit by a line drive on the second pitch of the game.

— Homers by Joey Wendle, Marcus Semien and Danny Valencia powered Oakland's 11-2 romp over Texas. Yu Darvish was tagged for seven runs over five innings as the Rangers fell to 5-5 in their last 10 games.

— The Rangers' magic number to win the AL West was trimmed to five with Seattle's 2-1 loss to Houston. Yulieski Gurriel slapped a two-run single and Mike Fiers (FY'-urz) worked six shutout inning as the Astros moved into a tie with the Mariners, three games out of an AL wild-card spot.

— Anthony Recker and Nick Markakis (mahr-KAY'-kihs) each had two hits and two RBIs as the Braves beat the Nationals for just the third time in 18 tries this season, 7-3. Winning pitcher Josh Collmenter allowed two runs in five innings against the Nationals, whose magic number to win the NL East remains six.

— Curtis Granderson was in a 1-for-26 slump before hitting the tying and walk-off homers to lead the Mets to a 3-2, 12-inning triumph over Minnesota. Granderson extended the game with a tenth-inning blast before his 29th of the season put the Mets in a tie with San Francisco for the first NL wild-card berth, two games ahead of St. Louis.

— The Cardinals kept pace with New York by scoring twice in the ninth inning of a 3-2 comeback against the Giants. The Redbirds were two outs from a 2-1 loss until Randal Grichuk (GRIH'-chuhk) hit an RBI single and Kolten Wong lifted a sacrifice fly.

— The Dodgers were 6-2 winners against Arizona as Joc Pederson belted a two-run homer. Brock Stewart gave up two runs over five innings and combined with five relievers on a six-hitter to help Los Angeles expand its lead in the NL West to five games over the Giants.

— Ryan Braun and Chris Carter combined for three home runs and nine RBIs as the Brewers ripped the Cubs 11-3 in Chicago. Braun belted a pair of homers and had five RBIs before Carter's grand slam in the ninth put the game out of reach. Losing pitcher Jake Arrieta (ar-ee-EH'-tuh) gave up three earned runs in six innings, leaving him 8-7 with a 3.92 ERA since opening the season 9-0 with a 1.56 earned run average.

— Andrew McCutchen drove in three runs and pitcher Jameson Taillon (TY'-ohn) collected his first major league RBI with a single in Pittsburgh's 10-4 pounding of Cincinnati in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Taillon gave up eight hits over five innings, including Adam Duvall's three-run homer. The Pirates completed the sweep as McCutchen's two-run single capped a four-run second in a 7-3 verdict over the Reds. Sean Rodriguez homered in both games.

— Jeremy Hellickson tossed a three-hitter and the Phillies scored five times in the first inning of an 8-0 rout of the Marlins. A.J. Ellis supplied a three-run double to cap the first-inning rally before Tommy Joseph slammed a two-run homer to make it 7-0 in the second.

— Dillon Gee threw 4 1/3 innings of one-run relief in the Royals' 3-2 win against the White Sox. Gee entered after Jason Vargas worked the first three innings, his first outing since undergoing Tommy John surgery.

— Jon Gray was fantastic in Colorado's 8-0 shutout of San Diego, striking out a career-high 16 in a four-hitter. Tom Murphy homered twice and drove in five runs.

MLB-METS-DEGROM

deGrom shut down again

NEW YORK (AP) — The Mets likely will spend the rest of the season without right-hander Jacob deGrom (deh-GRAHM') because of an injury to his pitching elbow. DeGrom was supposed to start Sunday against the Twins until he was diagnosed with an injury to the ulnar nerve.

DeGrom will need surgery, but the 2014 NL Rookie of the Year has not decided whether he will wait until the end of the season to have it. The recovery time for the surgery is expected to be three months.

HOCKEY-WORLD CUP

U.S. blanked

TORONTO (AP) — The United States is not off to a great start at the World Cup of Hockey. In fact, the Americans are still in search of their first goal.

Islanders netminder Jaroslav Halak (YAH'-roh-slahv hah-LAHK') turned back 35 shots in leading Team Europe to a 3-0 shutout of the U.S. in the opening game of the tournament.

Marian Gaborik (GAB'-uh-rihk), Leon Draisaitl (DRY'-sy-tul) and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored against Jonathan Quick, who stopped just 14 shots and was victimized by shoddy play by his teammates.

NHL-STARS-SEGUIN

Dallas All-Star injured

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin (SAY'-gihn) has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his heel after playing for Team Canada in preparation for the World Cup of Hockey. The Stars say Seguin will be re-evaluated in a week.

Seguin was an All-Star last season, when he had 33 goals and 40 assists in 72 regular-season games before his left Achilles tendon was cut by a skate..

COLLEGE BASKETBALL-GEORGE WASHINGTON-LONERGAN

GW dismisses hoops coach

WASHINGTON (AP) — George Washington has fired basketball coach Mike Lonergan following an internal investigation into players' allegations about Lonergan's behavior and conduct. University provost Forrest Maltzman said it concluded that Lonergan "engaged in conduct inconsistent with the university's values."

Lonergan went 97-70 in five seasons with the Colonials, taking them from 10 wins to 28 and the NIT title.

Maltzman said an announcement on an interim coach was coming soon.

LPGA-EVIAN

Chun tries to keep it going

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — In Gee Chun has a four-shot lead after three rounds of the Evian (ay-vee-AWN') Championship in France. She followed up a 63 and 66 with a 65 to finish play after 54 holes at 19-under.

Sung Hyun Park is second in the final major of the year, two strokes ahead of China's Shanshan Feng.

CHAMPIONS TOUR-PEBBLE BEACH

Sutherland leads when round is stopped

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Kevin Sutherland was the clubhouse leader when the second round of the Champions Tour event at Pebble Beach was suspended by darkness. Sutherland's 4-under 68 leaves him 8 under and one stroke ahead of Paul Broadhurst.
