The 17-time All-Star shot just 4-for-20 from the field while scoring 13 points in the Lakers' 107-103 loss to Indiana. Bryant missed 15 of his first 17 shots before hitting two late in the game.

Bryant was badly outplayed by Paul George, who hit five of his 10 3-point attempts and scored 39 points in leading the Pacers to their fifth straight victory. Monta Ellis added 15 points and six assists to the win.

Bryant made his retirement announcement in a post on The Players' Tribune, saying his heart and mind can handle another season, but his body knows it's time to say goodbye. He ranks third on the NBA's career scoring list with 32,683 points. He's won two Olympic gold medals and earned five NBA titles.

But this season has been a struggle. He is averaging just over 15 points on a career-worst 30 percent shooting in 13 games, numbers that have contributed to the Lakers' 2-14 start.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL-COACHES

Richt out at Georgia

UNDATED (AP) — Longtime Georgia coach Mark Richt is out of a job as the fallout from unfulfilled expectations begins in college football.

He has stepped down in what Richt calls a mutual decision.

— Virginia Tech has hired Memphis' Justin Fuente as its next football coach. He will replace Frank Beamer who's departing after 29 years. — Rutgers has fired coach Kyle Flood and athletic director Julie Hermann. The Scarlet Knights just finished a 4-8 season that was a mess on and off the field. Flood was suspended for three games for making inappropriate contact with a professor regarding a player's academics, and seven players have been arrested since August.

— Mike London has resigned as Virginia head coach after failing to produce a winning season in five of his six years. London had a 27-46 record at the school.

— Toledo's Matt Campbell will be Iowa State's new football coach, a person briefed on the decision has told The Associated Press. Campbell will replace Paul Rhoads, who was fired a week ago after seven seasons leading the Cyclones.
