St. Paul, MN (KROC AM News) - A huge turkey farm in central Minnesota is the latest to be hit by an outbreak of a lethal avian flu.

The US Agriculture Department announced Wednesday that it has confirmed an H5N2 outbreak in a 310,000 bird flock in Meeker County. It’s the ninth commercial turkey operation in Minnesota to be hit by the virus, and the ongoing effort to contain the pathogen will require the destruction of the flock.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers the risk to humans from the outbreaks to be low and notes that no human infections have been detected.
