Tower, MN (KROC-AM News) - They may not have made much progress on negotiating the state's next budget, but Governor Mark Dayton and the top Democrat and Republicans in the Minnesota legislature enjoyed a successful outing on Lake Vermilion for the 2015 fishing opener.

The governor pulled in the first catch of the day around 9 a.m. and ended up with a total of 9 catches, while Senator Majority Leader Tom Bakk caught 14 and House Speaker Kurt Daudt brought in a dozen fish during their outing Saturday morning.

Governor Dayton's first catch wasn't all that impressive, but Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith, in a separate boat and with a different guide, brought in a nice sized lunker.
