Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Numerous cities are reporting temperatures that dropped into the minus 30s Thursday morning. A few reported minus 40s.

The coldest temperature reported to the National Weather Service was -44 in Preston. Chatfield reported -39, it was -37 in the Austin area and Zumbro Falls reported a low of -35.

The low at the Rochester airport was -30, missing the record for the date by one degree. Rochester did set a record Wednesday as the high temperature at the airport was -19. That was the coldest high temperature on record for the date. It was also one of the coldest high temperatures on record.

Warmer air is on the way and Sunday’s high temperatures could be 75 degrees warmer than Thursday’s lows.
