Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears the weather will be cooperative on Monday for the scheduled start of a major road project in northwest Rochester.

The City’s Public Works Department says 18th Avenue will be completely closed from 55th Street south to 50th Street, although access to the Ranfranz Funeral Home and a nearby daycare center will be maintained.

The closure is needed for the reconstruction of the busy roadway, which will be done in two phases. The first phase, this fall, will involve the north portion, while work from 50th Street south to 37th Street will be covered in the second phase next year, starting in April. The entire project is scheduled to be completed next October.

The official detour route is along West River Parkway past Essex Park and the Watson soccer fields. The Rochester Public Transit route serving the area has also been modified for the duration of the project. Details on the bus route can be found at www.rptride.com.
