Minneapolis, MN (KROC AM News) - An autopsy is planned Friday to determine the cause of death of Prince.

The 57-year-old star died Thursday at his Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen.There was no immediate word on the cause of death.  He was found unresponsive in an elevator and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

TMZ is reporting Prince was treated for a drug overdose when his private plane made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois last Friday night, and he was said to be battling the flu at the time.

Fans across Minnesota poured into the streets and into bars Thursday night remember his legacy. Hundreds were outside First Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, a place he often played. Minneapolis honored Prince by illuminating the downtown 35W bridge with purple lights.

He was born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis on June 7, 1958.  Prince released his breakthrough album "Purple Rain" in 1984. It featured several hit singles, including "When Doves Cry," "Let's Go Crazy" and the title track.

He recorded 39 albums that had sales of over 100 million. Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Prince came to Rochester frequently to attend the regional Jehovah's Witnesses conventions held at the Mayo Civic Center.
