ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A 7-year-old boy who was pulled from an abandoned swimming pool at a St. Paul apartment complex on Memorial Day has died.

The family's pastor, Peter Vogt of Trinity Baptist Church in Maplewood, says Sher Kpor died Thursday morning. He had been in critical condition since he and his 10-year-old brother got past a security fence and fell into the dirty water of the pool, which had been closed since 1996. The pastor says Sher stayed on life support and never regained consciousness.

The 10-year-old, Ma Kpaw, who tried to save him, was treated and released.

Property owner Samir Abumayyaleh says he plans to fill in the pool and put up a playground.
