ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after a 5-year-old boy died in an apparent hit-and-run accident in Stearns County.

The boy was struck by an unknown vehicle about 3 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph. He already had been taken to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle before police arrived at the scene. The boy, whose name hasn't been released, later was pronounced dead at St. Cloud Hospital.

St. Joseph Police Chief Joel Klein says the department is still investigating, but a preliminary analysis determined the boy had been run over by a vehicle that had left the scene.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the St. Joseph Police Department.
