Wrong Family Notified in Deadly MC Wreck in Lakeville

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A man who died in a motorcycle crash in suburban Minneapolis in July was mistakenly identified as his close friend, dealing a shock to that man's family and friends until the error was sorted out.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jacob Lindholm died in the crash, but he was misidentified as Trevor Zens, whose motorcycle he had borrowed. The Star Tribune  reports that the mix-up was the result of police not being able to find a photo ID at the crash scene on County Road 46 in Lakeville.

Police ran the motorcycle's registration and went to Zens' house to notify his family after pulling his name up. Less than two hours later, his family learned he was alive.

Officials say such a mix-up is rare because there's usually something near the body to identify it.
