Woman and Baby Rescued From Arson Fire
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A man who spotted smoke pouring from a house a block away in St. Paul is credited with rescuing a mother and baby from the burning structure.
Richard Johann was having dinner with his girlfriend Monday evening and stepped outside the Tin Cup restaurant for a smoke. Johann says that's when he saw the billowing smoke coming from the house.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press says the 34-year-old man ran to the burning home and saw an open window. When he pushed in the screen he could see a woman in her 20s holding an infant. Johann says she seemed confused, but handed the 7-month-old baby to him. Johann then pulled the woman from the window.
St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard says the fire destroyed the house and was apparently intentionally set.
