Winona State Student Killed by Train
WINONA, Minn. (AP) — A student at Winona State University has died after he was struck by a train in Winona.
According to police reports and the university, 25-year-old Derek Michael Bute fell on the tracks at a crossing about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
The Winona Daily Newws reports Bute was taken by ambulance to Winona Health, where he was pronounced dead. No other details were available.
Bute was an exercise major from Alden. Winona State says counselors will be available during regular hours on weekdays at the Wellness Complex.
