Watch for The Super Supermoon
Undated (KROC AM News) -The fifth supermoon of 2016 will make its arrival this weekend.
NASA says this one will be the closest full moon Earthlings will see since 1948. And, it will be another 18 years before a supermoon like this appears in the sky.
NASA says a moon is called a “supermoon” when it is in its full phase and makes its closest pass to Earth.
NASA says the moon will be at its largest and brightest early Monday, just before 5:30 a.m. Central Time. A NASA spokesman says if you don’t want to get up early to catch a peek, you can check it out Sunday night or Monday night.
Noah Petro, deputy project scientist for NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission says, “The difference in distance from one night to the next will be very subtle, so if it’s cloudy on Sunday, go out on Monday. Any time after sunset should be fine. Since the moon is full, it’ll rise at nearly the same time as sunset, so I’d suggest that you head outside after sunset, or once it’s dark and the moon is a bit higher in the sky. You don’t have to stay up all night to see it, unless you really want to!”
The final supermoon of 2016 will occur Dec 14th.
