EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have promoted safety Ahmad Dixon from the practice squad to the active roster.

The Vikings announced the move on Wednesday as they started preparation for a game at Miami on Sunday. Dixon started the season with the Dallas Cowboys before being waived and signed to the Vikings practice squad in September.

The Chicago Bears signed him to their active roster but cut him in November. He also spent a short time in Miami before rejoining the Vikings practice squad on Dec. 6.

The move ensures that no team can sign him away over the final two weeks of the regular season.

Coach Mike Zimmer says they want to get a look at Dixon as a guy who may be able to help them down the road.
