A Fillmore County commissioner meeting was held Tuesday morning, and Preston was selected as the sight for a possible Veterans Home in Fillmore County.

It is big news for Fillmore County as the next couple of hurdles involve the state and jumping through their hoops.

The Preston City Council voted to commit $125,000 in support of a veterans home in Preston, while Preston Public Utilities also committed the same amount, according to the Fillmore County Journal.

The effort to land the home in Preston started five years ago, and will now take the next step as the communities of Preston and Spring Valley work together, along with all of the other towns in the county, to land the veterans home in Fillmore County.

The proposed site is located on 15 acres and has easy access to Highway 16 and 52. The Preston Area Community Foundation committed $100,000 and another $20,000 was committed from individual donors.
