MORA, Minn. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a Duluth man who was fatally shot by a Kanabec County sheriff's deputy outside a home in Mora.

The Ramsey County medical examiner's office identifies the man as 37-year-old Robert Sullivan Christen. He died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Christen was punching Deputy Shanna McIalwain in the head when the deputy shot him.

McIalwain has been with the sheriff's office for 1½ years. She was placed on standard administrative leave.

Sheriff Brian Smith says it happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday when the deputy responded to a call from a woman who said a man was on his way over to harm her. When the man drove up, he says, the deputy ordered him to stop, but he continued advancing and attacked the deputy.

The suspect died at the scene. The deputy was treated for minor injuries.
