Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the busiest traffic areas in downtown Rochester was closed to traffic for about 2 1/2 hours this morning after a traffic crash sent a vehicle sliding into the crosswalk.

A Rochester police spokesman says a man crossing 2nd Street Southwest at the intersection with South Broadway was in the crosswalk and was struck by the vehicle around 9 AM. The man was unconscious when emergency responders arrived at the scene and he was listed in critical condition as he was being transported to St. Mary's hospital, where police are being told he is now listed as stable.

The incident occurred when a motorist heading north on Broadway attempted to take a left turn onto 2nd Street and failed to yield to a southbound vehicle.

The emergency response and the investigation required keeping traffic off 2nd Street from Broadway to First Avenue Southwest until around 11:30 this morning. The name of the man hit the by the vehicle has not been released
