The Land of 10,000 Lakes is known for its natural beauty, of course, but our state is also becoming known for big business. And now, two Minnesota businesses just joined a well-known, prestigious list.

The Fortune 500 list is well-known both here in the U.S. and across world as the list of best companies in America. In fact, this CBS News story says, "The list has been a measure of the country's most valuable businesses since it first came out in 1955." Walmart is once again listed at number-one, followed by Berkshire-Hathaway (Warren Buffet's company) and then Apple and number-three.

So, it's kind of a big deal that Minnesota has added two more to the prestigious list. According to BringMeTheNews, our state's new additions to the Fortune 500 list this year are "financial company Securian and off-road vehicle maker Polaris Industries, both of which cracked Fortune's famous list of the top 500 American companies based on revenue," the story said.

Which is pretty impressive. They join 15 other Minnesota companies who made the list this year again, too, which includes some iconic Minnesota names like: United Healthcare (#5), Target (#39), Best Buy (#72), 3M (#97), General Mills (#182) and Land 'O Lakes (#216).

The story went on to say Minnesota actually lost two companies from the list this year too, though. "St. Jude's Medical, which was on last year's Fortune 500 list, is also off the 2018 list after it was bought out by Illinois-based Abbott," the story said. And, the Mosaic Company is moving its headquarters out of Minnesota to Florida, the story noted.
