St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - State officials say the over 16,400 motorists ticketed for speeding during a recent statewide crackdown included two motorcyclists who were clocked at 135 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone in Olmsted County.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says law enforcement officers participating in the two-week enhanced enforcement campaign cited 21 motorists for speeding at over 100 miles per hour. One of them had a child in the rear seat of the vehicle and not properly restrained when the driver was stopped for going over 100 miles per hour near Perham.

The Rochester Police Department issued 107 tickets for speeding, while the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department reported 235 speeding citations.

The total number of speeding citations issued by the State Patrol and several hundred local law enforcement agencies statewide was down about 500 when compared to a similar campaign last summer.
