Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Two people were arrested late Thursday after police responded to reports of gunfire on the west side of downtown Rochester.

A spokesman says the responding officers found a single spent shell casing from a 40 caliber gun on 1st Street Southwest near the Mayo Clinic’s Dan Abraham Center around 11:30 pm. A witness reported seeing a man and woman arguing when the man pulled out a handgun and fired it into the air.

Police viewed video recorded by security cameras in the area and soon had descriptions of the couple, who were then located outside a nearby apartment building. A 40 caliber gun and ammunition were found in the apartment and the man eventually admitted firing the gun.

The spokesman says 38-year-old James Grant was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, terroristic threats and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

The 21-year-old woman was arrested for a probation violation.
