Denver, CO (Learfield sports) -- Karl-Anthony Towns had his second straight double-double to lead Minnesota past the Denver Nuggets 95-78 Friday night.

Towns grabbed 14 rebounds and scored 28 points as the Timberwolves started their season with a second straight victory. Andrew Wiggins added 18.

Minnesota was 7-34 on the road last season, but both victories have come away from the Twin Cities. Emmanuel Mudiay led the Nuggets with 15 points, but his team could only hit 30 percent of its shots from the field.

Denver held a moment of silence to honor coach Flip Saunders, who died last Sunday.
