Timberwolves Beat Nets in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (AP) — Karl-Anthony Towns had 24 points and 10 rebounds in the building where he was taken with the No. 1 pick in the June draft, and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Brooklyn Nets 100-85 on Sunday.

Gorgui Dieng added 20 points and 10 boards to lead a strong bench unit that blew the game open in the fourth quarter. Andrew Wiggins scored 16 points and Ricky Rubio had 15 assists, but they were watching when the reserves turned a game the Timberwolves were already winning into one they dominated.

They returned down the stretch for Towns to make a couple of more baskets in front of some home fans. The New Jersey product had dinner with his parents Saturday and was expecting his grandmother to be in attendance Sunday.

Brook Lopez had 20 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for the Nets, who dropped their fifth straight.
