Three Races Set Up on First Day of Election Filings
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The filing period for 2016 general election in Minnesota opened Tuesday morning and several races have already been set up for some local elected positions.
Former Rochester State Representative Fran Bradley filed for the State House seat currently held by Democrat Kim Norton, as did Democrat Duane Sauke. Norton is not planning to run for re-election.
A race is also been set up for the District 7 seat on the Olmsted County Board, where incumbent Lou Ohly is being challenged by Mark Thein. Current County Commissioners Paul Wilson, Stephanie Podulke and Jim Bier also filed for reelection and are currently running unopposed.
A race has also been set up for the 2nd Ward seat on the Rochester City Council, where Scott Hoss filed to challenge Michael Wojcik. He filed for reelection Tuesday, along with 4th Ward Councilmember Mark Bilderback and City Council President Randy Staver. 6th Ward Councilmember Sandra Means earlier announced she would not be seeking another term in office.
At last report, no one had filed for the three positions on the Rochester School Board that are up for election this fall. The election and filing period runs through May 31st.
