The Minnesota grown White Spruce that will become this year’s Capitol Christmas Tree will make a stop in Rochester next month after crews harvest the 60-70 foot tall evergreen from Minnesota’s Chippewa National Forest next week.

The Rochester Downtown Alliance has joined with the Mayo Clinic to bring the tree to the Peace Plaza on November 7th, where it will be displayed from 11 a.m. through 3 p.m.

There will also be holiday programming at the Peace Plaza from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. that day, including two live reindeer, Santa Claus, readings by Mrs. Claus, as well as special promotions from local merchants. The finale for the event will be the lighting of the Peace Plaza holiday tree.

The Capitol Tree will be decorated and lit outside the U.S. Capitol after Thanksgiving.
