What is a "Me Only" position and why is it so detrimental to our society?

Jim Walters joined Andy Brownell for The Power of Learning Show during Rochester Today Monday morning on KROC-AM an explored why we so often fall into the trap of dealing with issues and conflict from the "Me Only" position. Walters says it's a response of our "primal brain," which can hijack our higher thinking abilities and limit our reactions to others who have opposing view points by putting us, by default, into a either a defensive or offensive mode.

Walters points out that can prevent a person from actually exploring and considering another viewpoint or information that could help an organization or individual resolve problems, improve outcomes and build trust. He says the key to avoiding the "Me Only" position is to pursue collaborative thinking.
