It's a subject we've talked about in the past on Rochester's Good Morning.  Law enforcement and the courts dealing with the mentally ill.

It's a difficult situation, because often the perpetrator has been off his or her meds. They're fine when taking them properly, but when they stop, behavior can gradually go south. Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem says the next wave in specialty courts is "mental health courts".  These, according to the County Attorney are run in a similar fashion as "drug courts"...

There are already some mental health courts in Minnesota including Hennepin County.
