Rochester Public Schools Superintendent Michael Munoz provided additional details about the upcoming expansion of the school district's One to One Technology initiative during his regular appearance on the Rochester Today Show with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell on KROC-AM.

The School Board voted Tuesday (Oct. 21) to authorize school district staff to seek bids for the purchase of over 3,000 additional iPad tablet computers at an estimated cost of $1.8-million dollars, which would be spread out over 4-years using a lease to own plan. Eventually, the school districts wants to have enough iPads to supply every student with a tablet computer, but this purchase would allow for the expansion of the One to One Technology program to six schools at the start of the next semester early next year.Munoz says the overall One to One Technology plans envisions full implementation by the start of the 2017-2018 school year.

In the above video clip, Munoz responds to the concerns expressed by some citizens following a newspaper report that mistakenly suggested the school district did not have plans in place for assessing the effectiveness of the iPads in the classroom.

The Superintendent also used his radio appearance to discuss the school district's finances, including the 2015 preliminary property tax levy, which is nearly 10-percent higher than the current levy, but is lower than the 17-percent hike in the original recommendation.
