Storm Blamed for Scattered Power Outages in Southeast Minnesota
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The winter storm that moved into southeast Minnesota Tuesday night produced wet and heavy snow that caused widespread power outages.
Rochester Public Utilities reported scattered outages Wednesday morning, including one involving about 160 customers. RPU says most of the outages were in southeast and southwest parts of the city. RPU blamed the outages on the heavy snow that accumulated on tree branches and brought them into contact with power lines.
Other area utilities reported the same problem, including MiEnergy Cooperative which serves customers in southeastern Minnesota and northern Iowa. At one point, 500 of its customers lost service. The utility also said poor road conditions made it difficult for repair crews to respond to many of the outages.
Oronoco-based People’s Energy Cooperative also reported numerous outages.
