ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — St. Paul police say a school bus driver found a 5-year-old girl crying, with her face bloodied.

The driver for a charter school pulled up in St. Paul's North End about 8:10 a.m. Monday and was waiting for a student when he saw the girl hiding behind a tree.

Police spokesman Steve Linders says the girl's face was bloodied and she was crying. Linders says the girl ran toward the school bus, and the driver called 911.

Linders says the girl apparently had a broken nose and was unable to tell officers what happened.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the girl described the suspect as a "big older boy" whom she had never seen before.

Linders says finding the assailant is "a top priority" for St. Paul police.
