ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A St. Paul firefighter has died after having a heart attack while on duty at a firehouse.

St. Paul fire chief Tim Butler says 38-year-old firefighter-paramedic Shane Clifton was working out just after 5 p.m. Monday when he suddenly wasn't feeling well and collapsed. Butler says firefighters and medics at the firehouse treated Clifton, but he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press  reports Clifton, a Navy veteran, is the first St. Paul firefighter to die in the line of duty since 2009. He joined the St. Paul Fire Department in 2007.
