MENTOR, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a St. Cloud man has died after he dove into a northwestern Minnesota lake and broke his neck.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says 47-year-old Todd Steinke hit his head on the bottom of Cable Lake near Mentor around 7:40 p.m. Saturday. The sheriff's office says Steinke was near the shoreline when two family members pulled him from the water.

Steinke was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics tried to revive him. An autopsy done at the University of North Dakota's forensic and pathology lab said Steinke had a broken neck.

Steinke was vice president of philanthropy and community health at CentraCare Health. Jeanine Nistler, communications director at CentraCare, says Steinke was "simply a great guy."
