Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Record-setting cold continues to cover southeastern Minnesota.

The National Weather Service says the morning low at the Rochester Airport was only 8-degrees, which was 1-degree colder than the previous record low for April 7th in Rochester that was set in 1936. There is a chance that today’s high temperature could also set a record for being the coolest high reading for the date. The current record is 29-degrees and was set in 1997. A year ago, the Rochester experienced a near normal day for early April with a high of 56-degrees and low of 29.

The National Weather Service continues to predict another strong spring snowstorm will hit southern Minnesota Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. A winter storm watch covers most of the southwest corner of the state and extends into south-central Minnesota, where Albert Lea, Waseca, and Mankato are included in the watch area. Forecasters are indicating 5-7 inches of snow is possible in the areas covered by the storm watch, while lesser amounts are possible east of I-35.

The latest weather maps put Rochester in an area that could see 2-5 inches of snow by Monday morning, with an inch or two of the snow expected during on the day on Sunday. Forecasters say a winter weather advisory might be issued for the region later today.
