Slain Officer’s ‘Whistleblower’ Lawsuit is Proceeding

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) — A police officer filed a lawsuit against the city of Mendota Heights claiming harassment and workplace retaliation several months before he was killed last year by a suspect during a traffic stop.

KMSP-TV reports a Dakota County judge granted a request in April by officer Scott Patrick's wife to allow the lawsuit to continue.

Police Chief Michael Aschenbrener and the city's mayor, Sandra Krebsbach, have each declined to comment on the lawsuit to the television station.

Authorities say Patrick was fatally shot by Brian Fitch after stopping him in July in West St. Paul. Fitch is serving life in prison without parole following his conviction in Patrick's death.
