Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service has confirmed a second tornado touchdown in the Rochester area.

A survey team has determined the storm damage that occurred near Chester on Wednesday evening was caused by an EF-0 tornado with 65 mph winds. The twister first touched down inside Chester Woods Park just before 7:10pm and was on the ground moving to the northeast for about a mile.

The other tornado, which was also a weak EF-0 twister, was briefly on the ground in a farm field about two miles south-southwest of Viola around 6:20 p.m. There were numerous other funnel clouds spotted in the areas south and east of Rochester around the same time. The main damage reported in the aftermath of the storm was from downed trees, including one that fell on several cars in the parking lot of a Northwest Rochester apartment complex.

Less than a half-inch of rain was recorded at the Rochester Airport, while almost seven-tenths fell on the helipad at St. Mary’s hospital. Locally, the heaviest rain fell east of Rochester. The highest amount reported was 2.9 inches at Dover, while both Eyota and Elgin saw over two inches of rain.
