Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A traffic stop in Stewartville on Saturday led to the apprehension of a man wanted as a suspect in a recent violent home invasion in Rochester.

26-year-old Matthew Bettridge was identified earlier as a suspect in the incident at an apartment in the 1500 block of 4th Avenue Southeast.

Police say a man and two women were there when Bettridge and 21-year-old Austin Swenson of Eyota forced their way inside and demanded money from a safe. A police spokesman says the three were roughed up by the intruders after they were told there was no safe in the residence. The male victim was knocked to the floor and punched and kicked in the face. The intruders took the man’s phone and left.

The victims knew Swenson and he was later apprehended. He has been arraigned on aggravated robbery and burglary charges. Bettridge is expected to face the same charges.
