Second Coldest New Year’s Day in Rochester History
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - For anyone who was outdoors on Monday, this should not come as much of a surprise - it was the second coldest New Year's Day on record for Rochester.
According to the National Weather Service, the official high temperature at the city airport was -5 degrees.
The coldest ever was -13, set in 1974.
The Weather Service also notes the temperature on New Year's Day in Rochester has stayed below 0 only two other times (1974 and 1979).
By the way - Rochester’s official high temperature at the airport finally got above zero before noon Tuesday.
It fell below zero Friday.
Meanwhile, another streak continues with no end in sight. It has been nearly two weeks since the temperature got above freezing and that streak will likely continue into next week or longer.
