School Board Wants New Options for Attendance Boundary Changes

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester School Board has delayed a decision on proposals to modify school attendance boundaries. The issue was scheduled for a formal vote during last night’s regular board meeting, but a decision was made to schedule another study session to allow for more discussion and additional time for school district staff to explore different options.

The School Board was presented last night with two options for shifting students out of four overcrowded elementary schools in northwest Rochester to schools with more room, particularly Riverside Elementary. A third option would keep the current attendance boundaries in place for the next school year.

The district earlier estimated that around 150 families would be affected by the proposed boundary changes, which are considered a stopgap measure until the school district pursues the construction of a new school to serve the fast-growing quadrant of the city.

The study session on the issue is expected to be scheduled next week.
