Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony are scheduled Wednesday for the new US Customs facilities and upgraded terminal at the Rochester airport.

The $12-million dollar project includes new centralized ticketing counters, consolidated baggage claim area and an expanded U.S. Customs area.

One of the significant improvements to the 58-year-old building involved the main terminal building, where air carriers operate their ticket counters and baggage areas. The project combined and relocated the ticket counter areas for all airlines to one side of the terminal and the baggage claim for all airlines to the other side.

The customs area was expanded to 20,000 square feet, increasing efficiencies and meeting current safety, security and space requirements. The airport was facing the possible loss of its international designation without the upgrade.

The grand opening event will run from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
