The Rochester Police Department today released the results of a recent crackdown on sex trafficking in the city.   It was called “ Operation Aware “ and it began in May.  Police say a total of 29  arrests were made during the campaign, which involved five operations.

The majority of the undercover operations dealt with ads placed in the escort section of the backpage.com website.

The department says most of the arrests were made by undercover officers who focused on people who offered money to juveniles and adults for sex, as well as those who promoted prostitution.  Victims of prostitution were also singled out.

The department says 11 of the arrests involved suspects who were seeking sex with minors.  The crackdown also resulted in two cases involving the trafficking of female juveniles that were taken over by federal authorities.
