Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Public Transit is preparing to launch a new bus route that will allow riders to avoid downtown Rochester.

The new route, aptly named “the Crosstown” will circle the city. Officials say it was designed to address the need for transfer points outside of the downtown transit hub and provide an easier way to access popular shopping and entertainment offerings in other parts of the city. The Crosstown route, which goes into service on Saturday, will travel around the city in both directions and intersect with all but two existing routes.
It will be in operation from 5:30 am to 10:30 pm on weekdays and from 6:30 am to 8 pm on weekends and holidays.

“We go to great lengths to design and deliver a transit system that works for all of the traveling public,” says Principal Transit Planner Bryan Law. “Route 191 represents a long-planned service expansion that the riding public has asked for.”

“Crosstown Connector” signs indicate the bus stops on existing routes that are transfer points which intersect with the new route, which will also bring bus service to some new areas with stops on West Circle Drive near Highway 14 and 19th Avenue Northwest. There will also be a new stop on East River Road at the Rochester Public Transit headquarters.
