Rochester Woman Sentenced for Assault and Chase

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester woman has been sentenced to 6 months in jail for a felony assault conviction stemming from an attack on the girlfriend of her former boyfriend last year.42-year-old Marci Smith was also placed on probation for 5 years. In addition to third-degree assault, she also admitted to a gross misdemeanor criminal vehicular operation charge and a misdemeanor domestic abuse charge.

Police say Smith drove to the home of her ex-boyfriend last October and got into a verbal confrontation with him and his girlfriend. During the altercation, police say Smith then struck the other woman over the head with a pipe before she got into her car and drove off.

After officers arrived at the residence, they saw Smith drive by and began a chase that ended when she crashed into the rear of another vehicle near Apache Mall. Smith and a woman in the other car were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
