Rochester Woman Killed in Suspected DUI Wreck
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A young Rochester woman was killed around 10 p.m. Friday in a crash police say was caused by a suspected underage drunken driver who has a short history of multiple driving convictions.
Police say a car driven by 20-year-old Akili Scott was traveling at a high rate of speed when he ran a stop sign and collided with the other vehicle, sending it onto its top into a nearby yard.
The driver of the car, 23-year-old Kayla Cunningham, was dead when officers arrived at the scene, which was at the intersection of 8th Ave and 13th St SE.
Scott and three passengers fled on foot but were later located. Scott was arrested on criminal vehicular homicide and other charges.
Court records shows Scott was convicted of three 'driving after suspension' violations that occurred between February last year and March this year. He was also convicted of four speeding cases from last November and December and January and March this year.
In one incident, he was clocked driving 64 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone and another time he was caught doing 56 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone.
