Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -  The Olmsted County Sheriff's Department has released preliminary information concerning a deadly traffic crash that occurred this afternoon in rural northeast Rochester.

Sheriff's Capt. Scott Behrns says the collision was reported around 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of 48th St. and East River Road in Cascade Township. Initial information gathered by investigators indicates the 64-year-old Rochester woman killed in the crash was driving north on East River Road and collided with a car traveling East on 48th Street.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the other car was transported to St. Mary's Hospital with unknown injuries. Capt. Behrns indicated his name is not yet available and only described him as a man in his 70s.

The section of 48th St. from North Broadway west to the East River Road intersection was closed for the investigation and is expected to remain close to traffic until at least 6 o'clock this evening. Additional information about the fatal crash is expected to be released Tuesday morning.
