Mike Dougherty, A.k.a. MNDOT Mike, return to the KROC-AM studio Wednesday morning for the Rochester Today show with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell.

Mike, whose official title is Public Affairs Coordinator, MnDOT District 6, provided the audience with a preview of some of the summer road projects planned in the Rochester area. The State Transportation Department will be releasing a comprehensive list of projects planned throughout Minnesota in a few weeks, but Dougherty disclosed that Highway 63 between Rochester and the Stewartville will see quite a bit of work this summer.

He says crews will be milling and repaving the highway from Highway 30 near the Rochester Airport all the way north to the 28th Street near Walmart South. In addition, work is slated to begin in the late summer on a new County Road 16 interchange near the airport. Dougherty says the existing bridge will remain in service until the new bridge is ready for traffic. He noted the new interchange will feature roundabouts to regulate traffic onto and off of County Road 16. There will also be some concrete pavement repairs done on Highway 63 from Highway 30 south to the Root River Bridge in Stewartville in September and October.  Traffic will be maintained during the projects, but would will likely be limited to a single lane in each direction.

MNDOT Mike also took the opportunity to remind motorists to exercise extra caution when driving near snowplows. Three snowplows were involved in traffic crashes over a three hour period in southeastern Minnesota during a snowstorm last week.
