Rochester Shooting Victim to Become a Citizen Monday
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Monday will be a very special day for a Rochester woman.
48 year old Zahra Zamiri nearly died after being shot at her Elton Hills neighborhood home by her ex-husband on March 7th. Zamiri was able to get outside where witnesses came to her rescue and slowed the bleeding from two gunshot wounds to the chest. Her ex-husband shot and killed himself minutes later.
Zamiri was unconscious for several days and remained hospitalized for an extended period.
She has since recovered enough to go to the Olmsted County Government Center Monday to become a U.S. citizen. Zamiri - an immigrant from Iran - was prepared to take the oath before she was shot.
Federal Judge Donovan Frank decided to hold the ceremony in Rochester rather than in the Twin Cities where they are normally conducted.
