Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Students in the Rochester School District posted slightly higher scores this year on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments for reading, but the math and science scores were down.

The State Department of Education released the results from the standardized testing program today and they show the percentage of students in the Rochester Public Schools demonstrating proficiency in reading rose three-tenths of a point to 59.8-percent, which is four-tenths of a point above the statewide average. School District officials say proficiency in reading increased among students in the 3rd, 4th and 6th grades, while there were decreases in grades 5, 7, 8 and 10.

The overall percentage of Rochester School District students demonstrating proficiency in math slipped from 60-percent last year to 58.7-percent, which dropped the district 1.5 percentage points below the statewide average. Again, proficiency increased among elementary-age students, while the scores posted by 7th, 8th and 11th graders declined this year.

The Rochester School District’s overall science scores were nearly 3-percentage points below the statewide average and were 1.5-percentage points below last year’s scores on the standardized tests.
