Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A rash of commercial burglaries in Rochester since the beginning of the year has led the Police Department to issue an advisory to businesses - and a change in policy concerning alarm response fees.

There have been 46 reported burglaries so far this year and investigators suspect many are being committed by the same thief or thieves. Although there has been no pattern as far as the time the break-ins take place, police say the most recent occurred on weekends.

The Police Department is asking business owners to be extra vigilant when opening or closing because a would-be thief may be in the area, observing locking procedures. If anyone that appears suspicious is seen near a business, owners or employees are asked to call 911.

The department has decided to temporarily suspend its false alarm fees for commercial businesses. Business owners are asked to contact their alarm company regarding notification procedures.
