Rochester Police Chief Roger Peterson was on KROC AM this morning with Rich Peterson and Kim David.  He comes in every third Wednesday during the 8 o’clock hour on Rochester's Good Morning.

One of the callers this morning asked the Chief if Rochester was a “sanctuary city”.  The caller felt that there were quite a few likely illegal immigrants in town.

According to the Chief, it’s a confusing topic.  He said there is no “official” definition of a sanctuary city.  He pointed out that President Trump’s executive order stated that you had to be in willful violation of federal law and Rochester is not.

He also said Federal law is not a model of clarity, but one thing is clear and that is illegal immigration is a civil offense and that's something his department does not deal with..
